Tour Guide

a local person contracted to show visitors around places of interest and offer commentaries relevant to the location or the client’s specific interests.


a tour guide with a P-Endorsement issued by NZTA (New Zealand Transport Authority), which allows them to drive with clients. There may be a limit to the number of passengers and the type of vehicle used, based on the driving licence class owned by the driver. Ie licence class 1 is limited to cars and small vans; class 2 minibuses with or without trailer; etc.

Small Tour Operator

usually a registered company that can provide packages and offer advice that goes beyond guiding. They can be sole trader or employ other guides. They may have branded vehicles or contract third party suppliers. They may have published tours already built for the public, or be able to build an itinerary on demand with the specifics requested by the client.
